Easter Rituals 2

PASSION SUNDAY

As we near the end of Lent, we celebrate Passion Sunday, known also as Palm Sunday. At the beginning of the liturgy, we receive palms in memory of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem. As a symbol of triumph, the palms point us toward Christ's resurrection and might remind us of the saints in heaven 'wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands". The white robes remind us of baptismal garments, and the palms suggest their triumph over sin and death through the waters of Baptism.

HOLY WEEK

This is the week immediately preceding Easter Sunday.
It is a time to commemorate and enact the suffering and death of Jesus through various observances and services of worship. The end of the week is called the Easter Triduum...Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday.

Holy Thursday

This was the day of the last meal (Passover Meal). Also the institution of Communion, the betrayal by Judas, and Jesus praying in Gethsemane.

Good Friday

On this day, the church commemorates Jesus' arrest, his trial, crucifixion and suffering, death, and burial.

Holy Saturday

This is the day Jesus rested in the tomb. The Easter Vigil begins after sundown Saturday. It is a day of quiet meditation.

EASTER SUNDAY

Holy Week and the Lenten Season end on Easter Sunday... the day of resurrection of JESUS CHRIST.

This Midi is: "Hallelujah"
